Please don’t forget that even though his business is failing, he still has the same number of customers but can’t raise the rent. His business overheads haven’t gone up but he still can’t make ends meet. He still wakes up before sunrise and gets home with the last matatu but his business is collapsing. He is still able to access to the Hustler Fund at a fair rate of 8% per annum but can’t even break-even. This is the hidden threat attendant to all businesses in Kenya, not just that of the Hustlers. The risk of depreciating currency. Exchange Rate Risk attendant to all international trades including the one practiced by our Hustler selling clothes as well the other 15 million hustlers trading in different merchandise.
But this is a non-exaggerated threat of an imminent collapse simply because the Hustlers can ONLY restock from imported supplies. We do not have any local production to keep money circulating within this economy. That is our Chief Diagnosis and the imminent threat to our survival.
